"New Precious Bridge" Purification Ceremony

Fo Guang Shan's "New Precious Bridge" was officially opened for use after Abbot Most Venerable Hsin Bau and Deputy Abbots Venerables Hui Lun and Hui Chao presided over the purification ceremony. On October 27, 2019, surrounded by many disciples, Venerable Master Hsing Yun walked across the New Precious Bridge under construction, saying meaningfully, "Though it's a short bridge, it represents life's infinite path."

His words contained Venerable Master's journey of building Fo Guang Shan while encouraging disciples: "The Buddhist path is long; diligence is the Way!"

In 1967, Venerable Master founded Fo Guang Shan for education. Venerable Master built a "Precious Bridge" across the deep ravine, completed in 1971 along with the Great Compassion Shrine. Nearly 50 years later, feeling elderly devotees' difficulty with stairs, Venerable Master compassionately directed building the "New Precious Bridge" between the Main Shrine and Great Compassion Shrine for devotees' convenience. The old and new Precious Bridges are less than 100 meters apart, yet over 40 years have passed. Fo Guang Shan transformed from a wilderness of ravines and thorns, through Venerable Master's shovel and hoe, into an internationally renowned Buddhist holy site. Past and present comparison shows incomparable change.
